Kate Milne, MHS, CSEP-CEP, RRP (Principal)
Ms. Milne has spent the past 15 years working with community agencies and stakeholder groups researching and developing healthy living programs and workplace health strategies. She has completed a Master of Health Studies and is completing a Master of Science in Kinesiology. She is a professional member of the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (Certified Exercise Physiologist), the Vocational Rehabilitation Society of Canada (Registered Rehabilitation Professional), the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the International Association for Worksite Health Promotion, and is certified as a FallProof Balance and Mobility Specialist.
Ms. Milne has produced health promotion research and programming for government, corporations, non-profit groups and unions. She has spent several years specializing in research, workshops, educational information, and large projects involving older adults and physical activity.
Ms. Milne also regularly acts as an ad hoc editor for a peer-reviewed health promotion publication, performs public speaking engagements and composes written material for health consumers.
Lindsay Richardson BA, MA (Health Research Consultant)
Ms. Richardson has a comprehensive background in health research, policy development and health promotion.
Her research includes several national and international health projects aimed at improving policy to prevent and reduce tobacco use among children, adolescents and women. Ms. Richardson’s research portfolio also includes projects related to physical activity and gender. Her findings have been presented at numerous conferences and published in peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of Public Health.
Recently, Ms. Richardson coordinated the BC Recreation and Parks Association’s Walk BC Initiative. In this role, she was responsible for the development, promotion, and implementation of five provincial programs aimed at increasing the physical activity levels of British Columbians. Currently, she is a Sessional Instructor with the Human Kinetics Department at Langara College and the School of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia.
Ms. Richardson has completed a Master of Arts degree from the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University.
Carman McKay, BSc.(Kin), RK, RRP (Consultant)
Ms. Mackay has spent the past 13 years as a workplace health specialist. She has extensive experience in both workplace health and ergonomics. Ms. Mckay also developed a fall prevention series intended to reduce injury in older adults. She has designed and implemented reactivation programs for arthritic populations and those with total hip and total knee replacements.
Debbie Cheong (Consultant)
Ms. Cheong's diverse portfolio of professional projects include co-authoring the Osteofit Instructor training manual, the development and delivery of exercise training programs for Assisted Living and Residential Care activity coordinators in Fraser Health Authority; development and delivery of Get Up & Go! an introductory Osteofit program for frail seniors at risk for falls (a collaborative project with Fraser Health Fall Prevention Initiative and Fraser Health Specialized Geriatric Clinics); a review and development of an exercise training program for the Wellness staff of Amica Mature Lifestyles Inc.; an exercise consultant for Act Now BC / BCRPA Exercise DVD Move for Life!; and as a workshop presenter to Interior Health Community Care (Kelowna) on safe physical activity and exercise programs for those with osteoporosis.
She is a presenter at numerous health and fitness conferences including the BCRPA’s Fitness Conference, the YMCA Instructors’ Retreat, Metis Women’s Health Conference, SFU’s John K. Friesen Conference, and the Aga Khan Society. Debbie is also a volunteer presenter for The Arthritis Society Speakers Bureau.
Lissa Cowan, BA, MA (Copy Editor/Writer)
Ms. Cowan has collaborated with governments, businesses and nonprofits in the areas of education, adoption, child and family welfare, health, the arts, and First Nations cultures on Canada’s West Coast. She has a background in publishing and editing and has widely written and published articles, non-fiction books, and translations from French into English. Over the years, Ms. Cowan has worked with British Columbia’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Children and Family Development on social marketing initiatives with respect to educating teachers/students about web technologies, and conducting campaigns around issues such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), adoption and foster care. Ms. Cowan is passionate about creating compelling content that strengthens a client’s story and overall reach. She is also known for her social media savvy and has worked with clients such as NGOs and governments (e.g. United Nations Development Programme) to integrate new technologies into outreach activities. As a journalist she frequently writes on issues related to women’s health, the arts, food and sustainability.
Jacqueline Saleem, B.Ed., MA (Research Associate)
Ms. Saleem is a former high school English and Social Studies teacher who put her teaching career on hold last year to pursue her Masters in English Literature at the University of British Columbia. In the course of her job and studies, Jacqueline has gotten very good at ferreting out and collecting bits of revealing and pertinent information from many sources and in a variety of mediums. This has translated well into her position as a consulting research associate with Cardea Health Consulting.
